Margaret River WA
is a fantastic local, interstate, and international tourist destination with stunning landscapes, views and places to visit. Ranging from wineries, art galleries or simply tasting local food and seeing the sites, the local area will keep you entertained for days.
The town was named after the river, which was presumed to be named after Margaret Whicher, cousin of John Garrett Bussell (founder of Busselton) in 1831. After world war 1, an attempt by the government of Western Australia to attract migrants to Western Australia & establish farms in the region attracted new settlers to the town.
Margaret River's coast to the west of the town is a renowned surfing location, with worldwide fame for its surf breaks including, but not limited to, Main Break, The Box, and Rivadog. Colloquially, the area is referred to as Margs. The surrounding area is the Margaret River Wine Region and is known for its wine production and tourism, attracting an estimated 500,000 visitors annually.
